Establishing a Family Legacy with a Life Insurance Policy
Grant Pothast’s three older children—Morgan ’14, Jake ’16, and Taylor ’17—all benefited from Lawrenceville’s rigorous academics, excellent athletic and co-curricular programs, and the diverse voices of classmates, teammates, and friends. Both Morgan and Taylor played field hockey, Morgan played softball, Taylor ran track and was editor of the Olla Pod, and Jake played ice hockey. All three were inducted into the Oval Society for their dedication to community service and served on the Religious Life Council. They lived in Carter, Griswold, and Kinnan.
The siblings’ Lawrenceville experience continues to inspire their achievements. Morgan attends the Georgetown University School of Medicine, Jake is a hedge fund analyst in NYC, and Taylor is a program manager at Microsoft in Seattle.
Out of gratitude for their Lawrenceville education, Grant established a life insurance policy in 2016 with the School as the beneficiary and with proceeds split equally between endowments for Big Red athletics and scholarship aid. “My gift deliberately recognizes teamwork, sportsmanship, and cultural enrichment—Lawrenceville hallmarks,” he says.
“One of the greatest gifts you can give your children—other than love, good values, and your time—is the gift of education,” says Grant. “With an insurance policy they can watch it grow, and it becomes a wonderful lesson in philanthropy and the importance of education to our family. Growing my gift over time also allows me to have a greater impact than I could have otherwise.
“When you’ve been blessed with success, you have an obligation to give something back,” he adds. “I’m proud to be able to support the School, and a planned gift to Lawrenceville is a perfect family legacy.”
